Critical endorsement for Patel in Hillsborough race

TAMPA – Senator George LeMieux endorses Aakash Patel for Hillsborough County Commission, District 7.

LeMieux served as U. S. Senator from the State of Florida from 2009 to 2011 is now Chairman of the Florida based law firm Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart. Aakash Patel and LeMieux met while Patel was a Student Senator at Florida State University. LeMieux commented, “I have known Aakash since he was a student and I appreciate all he has done for the community particularly his work for early childhood education. He consistently applies his conservative principles to accomplish goals”.

Patel said “I am honored by the support from Senator LeMieux. I appreciate all he has done for Florida and I look forward to working with him once I become a Commissioner in Hillsborough County”.

The commission representative for District 7 in Hillsborough County would be countywide, thereby helping preside over Tampa, Brandon, Plant City, Temple Terrace, Lutz, Sun City Center, and others.  The position is currently held by Al Higginbotham, who will be retiring at the end of his term.

District 7 has seen a major shakeup in candidacy since Sandra Murman, like Patel a Republican, decided to remain in her District 1 seat rather than run for the countywide position.  Patel had previously been planning to run for the to-be-vacated District 1 seat, but switched to District 7 on Murman’s announcement.

Democrats Charles Davis III, Kimberly Overman, Corey Reynolds, and Sky U. White are all vying for the position.  The only other republican in the race besides Patel is Cherie Denham.

Aakash Patel, the successful millennial founder of Elevate, Inc. is running for Hillsborough County Commission District 7. He looks forward to working on issues important to residents of Hillsborough County including, transportation, economic development and public safety among many others.
