55% Of Businesses Checked Sold Alcohol, Tobacco To Minors

The Pinellas Park Police Department on Wednesday investigated local businesses that sell tobacco and alcohol products to see if they’re checking IDs and only selling to people who are legal.

Police say that just over half of the businesses checked were selling items to underage customers. All reports of non-compliance will be forwarded to state regulatory agencies for follow up.

The police department says that tobacco was sold to minors at the Circle K/Shell gas station at 4900 Ulmerton Road and alcohol was sold at the following locations:

Citgo; 10761 49th St N
Rally: 12602 49th St N
Speedway: 12550 49th St N
Rainbow Food Mart: 8592 49th St N

The following businesses were found to be in compliance and required identification and refused sales of alcohol and tobacco:

Racetrac: 6951 49th St N
On-Z-Run: 8534 49th St N
Pure Gas: 4911 – 110th Av N
Shell: 9359 49th St N

Police say these checks are intended to educate the local businesses about the importance of selling only to those people who are legally able to buy and possess certain restricted sale items.
