Mission to find missing Florida swimmer now recovery effort

VILANO BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Florida authorities and the U.S. Coast Guard are searching for a swimmer who disappeared on Vilano Beach.

In a news release sent Monday morning, St. Johns County Sheriff’s spokesman Chuck Mulligan said the search has switched to a recovery effort. He identified the swimmer as 20-year-old Skyler Christian Taylor and said they’re operating with “diminished returns” given witness accounts and ocean conditions.

Originally two swimmers were reported missing on Sunday, but the other one eventually made it back to shore. Officials say Taylor was last seen about 150 yards (137.11 meters) offshore.

Eight government vessels and a helicopter took part in Monday’s search.
