A DeBary funeral home is being investigated after 16 corpses of indigent people were removed from the business by Volusia County authorities.
Altman Long Funeral Home had apparently stored the bodies instead of burying them.
Some of the remains had been in a cooler at the funeral parlor since last September.
The owner says he wanted more time to find the next of kin.
The home had a contract with Volusia County for 20 years to prepare and bury remains of people without means to pay for their interment.
The county says it will not renew with Altman Long.
