A “terrible accident” has left a Jacksonville street sweeper operator dead, and authorities wondering why it happened.
Officials say the unidentified man got out of his street sweeper on San Jose Boulevard in the Mandarin neighborhood—apparently to get something that was stuck in the brushes or suction apparatus. That is when he himself was sucked into the machine.
The man was heard crying out for help and 911 was called, but the operator was dead by the time responders got to him.
Investigators are trying to figure out what happened.
