Manhunt Underway For Double Longboat Key Killer

A manhunt is on after a robbery turned into a double murder on Longboat Key Friday morning.

Officials say the night manager, 59 year old Timothy Hurley, and a security guard, 51 year old Kevin Carter, were shot to death at the Zota Beach Resort, 4711 Gulf of Mexico Drive, where they worked.

Surveillance video is being analyzed to try and cobble together a description of the killer and possibly identify him.

An $18,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

“This has every indication of an isolated robbery gone bad,” investigators said.

Officials say they don’t believe the killer, though considered armed and dangerous, is not a threat to others on Longboat Key. Shocked and shaken employees arriving this morning will be attended to by grief counselors.
