CrossFit Gaining World Wide Popularity

The Sport Of CrossFit Is Turning Into A Lifestyle

With more than 10,000 affiliated gyms worldwide and more than half of them situated in the United States, CrossFit is becoming the new trend in daily fitness.

Founded in 2000 by Greg Glassman and Lauren Jenai, CrossFit has made it’s presence known in every state, city, and town that has a beating pulse. So what is contributing to the increasing success to the CrossFit world?

Here’s the answer…

CrossFit is more than just a fitness gym. It’s more than just a hobby. It’s a lifestyle for it’s members and the coaches. Once you start doing CrossFit you will never stop. There’s a certain culture that takes place at every “box“(CrossFit gym), and when new members become accustomed to that culture, they live by it and love it.

CrossFit has made a name for itself especially during it’s showcasing of the televised CrossFit Games every year. Having the fittest athletes around the world compete for the coveted title of fittest man and woman on earth, it’s understandable why many feel intimated to try CrossFit for the first time. High intensity cardio mixed with Olympic weight lifting and gymnastic movements in every WOD (workout of the day) looks painful enough to witness.

But that’s the whole point of CrossFit. It’s an intense workout for the human body that everyone suffers through. No matter how fit or unfit you are, you push yourself to experience the pain during the workout. The result is the satisfaction of finishing a CrossFit workout to the best of your ability and effort while having a better looking physique at the end of the day.

That’s the greatness of this sport. Anyone and everyone can do it and there is absolutely no judgement. There will always be scaled workouts for those who are unable to perform a certain exercise or movement. Scaling is made for the sole purpose of improvement, which is what CrossFit is all about. The competitive nature of trying to finish a workout in a timely manner encourages every athlete to give 100% of their energy while the ultimate goal of any WOD is to finish.

With many CrossFit affiliates starting off in a garage or warehouse, it’s sometimes hard to believe why people would be attracted to an atmosphere like that. But you have to start somewhere to get to another. A great example of this comes from a local CrossFit affiliate, CrossFit Tampa Bay. Starting in a small warehouse in Tampa, CrossFit Tampa Bay has now expanded into two massive boxes situated in Largo and South Tampa with hundreds of members attending daily WOD’s.

If you’re looking for a social atmosphere with great coaching and a fitness program that caters to an individual’s needs to become a more fit you, stop by your local CrossFit gym. You will not regret it.
