White House Issues Veto Threat Over Keystone Pipeline

The White House issued a veto threat Tuesday for pending legislation intended to force federal approval of the Keystone XL pipeline. Newly minted Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has scheduled a vote on the Keystone XL pipeline project as the first of the new Congress. The bill has some bipartisan support, but environmentalists and progressives have heavily lobbied the White House to oppose the pipeline.

On Tuesday, John Boehner beat back a challenge to his speakership from restless conservatives as Republicans assumed control of both houses of Congress for the first time in eight years.
