Tampa Is One Of The Best Places For Veterans To Live

Veterans Day is coming up this weekend, and a new WalletHub study has a few Florida cities listed as the best places for veterans to live. Tampa is the sixth best place for veterans to enjoy life outside of the military.

Unfortunately, many veterans are denied millions of dollars in disability benefits, and some even face homelessness and unemployment. A lot of these problems come based on where veterans live.

In some cities, veterans suffer from long delays in mental-health treatment, and thousands lost their GI Bill education benefits in 2016 due to for-profit school closures.

To help veterans find the right place to live, WalletHub compared 100 of the largest U.S. cities across 17 key metrics. Data collected ranged from the share of military skill-related jobs to housing affordability to availability of VA health facilities.

While Tampa came in sixth behind Austin, TX, Colorado Springs, CO, Virginia Beach, VA, Raleigh, NC, and Plano, TX, two other Florida cities made the cut for best places for veterans.

St. Petersburg is 15th, and Jacksonville is 21st. Of course, there is another side to this study and Hialeah, FL came in as the fourth worst place for veterans to live.

Hialeah is in the top for lowest percent of military skill-related jobs, lowest veteran income growth, and lowest veteran population.

Miami is also considered on the bad side of places for veterans to live. Alongside Hialeah, Miami is in the top five for lowest percent of military skill-related jobs and lowest veteran population. However, the city did rank in the top five for highest veteran income growth.

Also, Orlando is tied for having the highest veteran unemployment rate. Jacksonville, on the other hand, is in the top five for fewest homeless veterans per veteran population and highest veteran population.
