Tampa Gas Prices At A 12-Year Low

A new report released overnight by AAA shows the average price of gas is at the lowest it has been in the last 12 years.

U.S. gas prices are averaging $2.33 since June 1, which is the lowest gas price average since 2005 when it was $2.13.

In Florida, the average price is $2.201. Tampa, St. Pete and Clearwater are areas with the lowest prices in the state, while West Palm Beach has the highest.

WFLA reported that some people in the Tampa Bay area are finding fuel prices under $2 a gallon, which makes traveling for the upcoming holiday weekend even more enticing for Florida residents.

In the South/Southeast region, AAA reported an unexpected 2.4 million bbl build in gasoline inventory, which was the largest jump on the week in the country. The stocks jump resulted in the region’s low gasoline prices.

But it’s not just the South seeing lower gas prices. Consumers can find gasoline for less than $2.24 at 56 percent of gas stations nationwide, which is below the current national average price of $2.29/gallon.

Fuel prices dropped in all but four states this week. Places like South Carolina and Oklahoma dropped below $2/gallon, which is just in time for the Fourth of July holiday. AAA expects 44 million people to travel over the holiday weekend and 37 million of those travelers are expected to vacation by car.
