Tampa 17 Year Old Shot at Party

A Tampa family is in mourning after an overnight party turned deadly.  Police said 17-year-old John Singleton was shot and killed Saturday night.

“I just went to pieces ’cause I couldn’t believe that he’s gone,” said John’s mother, Cheryl Singleton.

Cheryl said she didn’t know her son was going to the party. About 60 people were at the event held at Unique Island Grill along E. Lake Avenue. It was rented out for a birthday party. Police say a fight started inside then made its way outside. Shots were then fired and, according to authorities, John was hit. His sister, Jazriana Singleton, said the teen was shot once in the neck. John later died at Tampa General Hospital.

Jazriana said her brother, a student at Tampa Bay Tech, was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

“Everybody loved my brother. Everybody was cool with my brother. My brother wasn’t no troublemaker,” she said.

John’s family also wants anyone with information on the shooting to come forward.

So far, no one is in custody or has been arrested for this shooting. If you have any information, call Tampa Police.
