Florida Consumer Confidence Down Again

After feeling pretty good about the economy and their finances, Floridians have decidedly soured on both in the latest survey that seeks to measure the confidence of the state’s consumers.

The latest University of Florida survey shows that consumer confidence is down for the second straight month. May confidence was 93.3 on a scale from two up to 150. That is 2.4 points less than in April.

The two-month drop-off comes after a March reading that was the highest in 15 years.

Hector Sandoval of the Economic Analysis Program at UF’s Bureau of Economic and Business Research says Floridians are becoming pessimistic about current economic conditions, and that they are also becoming more skeptical about their future personal finances.

Sandoval said the April and May surveys “might indicate a significant change in the trend of consumer sentiment,” especially if the downward trend continues.
