A 7-year-old girl was crossing the street to board her school bus when she was hit by a passing car, according to deputies.
It happened just before 8 a.m. at Pine Top Road and Summer Cruise Drive in Valrico.
During an investigation it was found that the bus was slowing down and had its yellow lights flashing. The car was traveling about 10 miles an hour when it passed the bus and hit the girl, who wasn’t transported to the hospital and only suffered minor injuries.
Her father said they would take her to the hospital anyway to have her checked out. Although her name isn’t released, we know she is a student at Nelson Elementary School.
The driver was not ticketed in the incident because he didn’t pass when the bus was fully stopped and it had its red lights flashing. He passed when the lights were still yellow.
