‘Fixer Upper’ Star Chip Gaines Hit With A Lawsuit

Chip and Joanna Gaines weren’t expecting stardom, but that’s what they got when they launched ‘Fixer Upper’ on HGTV. Now Chip is getting hit with a lawsuit that he has some remarks about.

Last week his former partners filed a lawsuit against the Magnolia Real Estate Company. Co-founders John L. Lewis and Richard L. Clark alleged that Gaines bought them out of the company just days before the HGTV premiere of ‘Fixer Upper.’ In the $1 million lawsuits, Lewis and Clark note that Gaines paid them $2,500 for their shares.

‘Fixer Upper’ launched in May 2013 and the co-founders claim that Gaines didn’t tell them about the series that would air nationally and “the show prominently featured the ‘Magnolia’ brand name before the sale,” reported Fox News. Meaning they felt pressured to sell their shares before realizing how much the show would increase Magnolia’s value.

In an email to the Huffington Post Gaines’ attorney, Jordan Mayfield, said, “We are confident that these claims will be found to be meritless, and it is disappointing to see people try to take advantage of the hard work and success of Chip and Joanna Gaines.”

On Saturday Gaines fired back to the lawsuit in his way on Twitter.

Gaines called out his supposed “friends” on social media and didn’t seem too thrilled over the whole ordeal.

‘Fixer Upper’ just went through a fake news nightmare. An article published by a fake news source had claimed Joanna was leaving the show and that HGTV had canceled the series.

Good news though, it wasn’t true. Season Four premiered back in November and did just fine.
