Authorities are investigating the theft of four parrots and two monkeys from their home with an exotic bird breeder in Port St. Lucie.

The birds are worth about $800 each and together with the monkeys, the thief or thieves got away with $2,000-worth of animals, Port St. Lucie police spokesman Frank Sabol said Monday.

Antoine Herndon, who lives in the 3300 block of SW McMullen St., told police he last saw the critters, four African Grey parrots and two cotton-top Tamarin monkeys, Saturday night when he checked the stables where he keeps them.
