NYU Teen Rescued After 36 Hours

The NYU student who was rescued Sunday night after being trapped for 36 hours in a space between two Lower Manhattan buildings told cops he was drinking at a party and later slipped and fell into the gap, police sources said.

Asher Vongtau, 19, wound up wedged between a NYU dormitory at 80 Lafayette St. and a next-door garage. He suffered broken ribs and a fractured skull, police sources said.
His father posted a relieved message on Twitter Monday.
“Spoke to Asher, he’s in good spirits,” Lulufa Vongtau wrote. “His mother and I are grateful to God for this gift!”University officials said a student reported Vongtau missing at 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
