Winter Storm Boreas moved into parts of the U.S. Southwest and Southern Plains, bringing arctic temperatures and wintry precipitation into the region. Three people were killed in blustery Northern California, one person was killed in Arizona after being swept away by flood waters, and dozens of cars became stranded in snowy rural Nevada as the storm moved through the southwest.
The system was expected to head east and reach the opposite coast by the middle of next week.
Parts of Arizona, California, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas felt the brunt of the storm Friday.
