Pedophilia Next Stop on “Rights” Agenda

Salon.com published an op/ed from Todd Nickerson titled: I’m a Pedophile, But Not a Monster.

Nickerson attempts to explain how he can’t help being wired to be sexually attracted to children. He claims he’d never act on his attraction and suffers silently as a result.

This sympathy play marks the next frontier of “sexual rights” and expression issues predicted by many Conservative commentators after the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage.

The psychiatric community, media and advocates all worked to mainstream homosexuality as something normal and “being born this way” during its path to majority public acceptance. Pedophiles and their advocates will now attempt to take the same route.

Nickerson explains how he was born without a right hand and grew up learning to deal with his handicap:

But none of this would compare to the final insult the universe would deal me. I’ve been stuck with the most unfortunate of sexual orientations, a preference for a group of people who are legally, morally and psychologically unable to reciprocate my feelings and desires. It’s a curse of the first order, a completely unworkable sexuality, and it’s mine. Who am I? Nice to meet you. My name is Todd Nickerson, and I’m a pedophile.

Nickerson explained he became aware of his preferences at the age of 13 when he spied a 7-year-old girl at his grandmother’s home.

“Soon the little girl walked into the dining room and stood at the archway entrance to the living room, watching me draw. I can still see her today in my mind’s eye: dressed in blue jeans and a nearly matching denim jacket, with pristine blue eyes and a halo of wispy blond curls framing her face. She seemed somehow larger than life and almost ancient in the way she stood so perfectly still. Then, just like that, she was gone; she and her father left. That singular moment, though it could scarcely have lasted more than a few minutes, has become seared into my memory.”

He then goes on to explain how a man fondled him in his grandparent’s front yard at the age of 7, but quickly isolates his case as something that might not have caused his current sexual preferences.

“It’s easy to assume that pedophilia is always the result of some early sexualization or abuse, and certainly there seems to be a connection in some cases. However, evidence suggests there’s no magic bullet that pedophilia can be traced back to. For every pedophile who was sexually abused as a child there’s another who wasn’t. Likewise, most abuse victims never manifest pedophilic desires. Some researchers surmise that pedophilia can be traced back to genetics. Others believe the cause is congenital, and still others that it’s environmental. Personally, I think the ultimate cause is likely some combination of those, and that it varies from person to person.”

But the cause eventually leads to an obsession Nickerson describes as being “hardwired” into the brain.
“In essence, your brain knows what it likes and isn’t going to take no for an answer. For that reason, the nature or nurture question with respect to sexual preference is ultimately irrelevant—it becomes all but hardwired soon enough, until it’s all you know. And it’s self-reinforcing, no matter how much you wish to dig it out.”

Nickerson attempts to create a sympathetic picture as he explains how he scrapes by with a freelance graphic business in his small town. After self-outing himself to pedophile groups — in an attempt to find like-minded individuals — Nickerson became the target of a pedophile hunt group and lost his job at Lowe’s. He attempted to file for disability, but blames his “conservative Southern state” for denying him.

So, please, be understanding and supportive. It’s really all we ask of you. Treat us like people with a massive handicap we must overcome, not as a monster. If we are going to make it in the world without offending, we need your help. Listening to me was a start.

Salon’s OpEd marks an opening salvo in tying a myriad of sexual preferences to “hard wiring”.

Nickerson’s story glosses over his own abuse scenario, although he does claim it might have something to do with his current preferences. And while he claims he would never hurt a child, how do you justify pedophiles who don’t physically touch children, but consume child pornography? Some kid somewhere is being abused in the manufacturing process.

The Left continues to find new lows to mainstream into society.
