Obama To Meet With Putin In NY

With world leaders heading to the United Nations in NYC for the General Assembly, it does present the occasion for some one-on-one discussions. And as the White House made clear, at the request of Russian President Putin, he and President Obama will do just that on Monday, with Topics A being the Ukraine, but there is also that matter of Russia’s increased military presence in Syria.

Obama hasn’t seen much reason to meet with Putin, unless the Russian leader seems open to change his handling of these matters, so this meeting request may be a sign that the door is opening. We should know soon enough. And Capitol Hill is till reverberating from House Speaker Boehner’s announcement that he’s leaving Washington at the end of October.
