House, Senate Have Diverging Goals For 2016

The year ahead promises to be one of bold ideas in the House, if Speaker Paul Ryan gets his way, with lawmakers debating sweeping initiatives on taxes, health care and foreign policy. In fact, Ryan is hoping to put forward a program that be adopted by the eventual GOP presidential nominee, including a long-promised but never-delivered alternative to Obamacare.

McConnell meanwhile, who has a slimmer majority in the Senate, is looking to tread carefully, and other than some spending bills to keep things afloat, has no real agenda other than to be laser-focused on protecting their majority thru the next elections. So, in the end, from Capitol Hill in 2016, invert the Elvis lyric… a little more conversation, a little less action.
