AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Democrats are upset about Gov. Paul LePage’s use of a sexually vulgar phrase to describe how he says a lawmaker is taking advantage of the people.
LePage singled out Sen. Troy Jackson in remarks to reporters Thursday after announcing he plans to veto the Legislature’s two-year budget.
Jackson criticized the governor’s call for a 60-day reprieve to negotiate a new budget.
LePage is known for speaking his mind. The Republican once told the NAACP to “kiss my butt.” But some felt he crossed the line in his personal attack on Jackson.
Democratic Senate Leader Seth Goodall says the language LePage used isn’t appropriate at home or in school “and surely we expect more from our governor.”
