Obama: Congress ‘Has Taken Its Eye Off The Ball’

President Barack Obama is on the road again, laying out his economic vision for the rest of his administration — one that centers on strengthening the middle class.

“I care about one thing and one thing only, and that’s how to use every minute of the 1,276 days remaining in my term to make this country work for working Americans again,” Obama said in a speech at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill.

As Congress prepares to go on its five-week-long August recess, the president said he “will engage the American people” on his strategy for rebuilding America’s manufacturing base, investing in infrastructure, and educating the nation’s work force. None of these ideas are new, but Obama wants to enter the fiscal fights that await him in September and October with public opinion on his side, not Republicans’.
