TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Six state legislators, a former governor and a top aide to Gov. Rick Scott will pick the date for Florida’s presidential primary.
Scott and legislative leaders on Friday named their picks to a committee charged with deciding when voters will head to the polls.
The committee is scheduled to hold its first meeting Sept. 23.
Those named to the panel were: former Gov. Bob Martinez; former state Sen. Al Lawson; Scott’s deputy chief of staff, Jenn Ungru; state Sens. John Thrasher, Rene Garcia, Gary Siplin and state Reps. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, Seth McKeel and Cynthia Stafford.
Some GOP leaders want Florida be the fifth state in the nation when it comes to choosing a presidential nominee.
That means Florida would have to set its primary before Feb. 28
