The U.S. State Department announced Sunday that the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad will stay open as militant extremists in Iraq continue their offensive toward the city, but security had been bolstered and some staff member were being moved out of the capital city. On Friday, President Obama ruled out sending U.S. troops “back into combat” in Iraq despite the threat from a surging army of Islamic militants. As the crisis continues to worsen, speculation persists as to whether President Obama will take action in the country despite last week’s comments, as well as opening up direct dialogue with neighboring countries, including Iran, on the security in Iraq.
