NTSB Releases Probe Report On Amtrak Train

On Tuesday, the NTSB will announce the “probable cause” of the Amtrak #188 derailment that occurred just outside Philadelphia in May 2015, killing eight people and injuring more than 200 passengers. At the time, it was reported that the train was traveling at 106 miles per hour in a 50 mile-per-hour speed-limit zone when it flew off the rails.

The report will indicate the engineer lost “situational awareness,” thinking he had already passed a major curve, and when he got word of rock throwing in the area, essentially put the pedal to the metal.
