London’s Most Famous Clock Needs Repairs

It could quiet the clock for months if not years. But two of Britain’s largest newspapers reported Sunday that Parliament’s massive clock needs along the lines of $60 million dollars in repairs, and urgently.

The Sunday Times says according to a source, the clock may grind to a halt by itself, and there was one report that the hands could fall off. Now that’s pretty bad.

In any case, the thrust of the reports is that repairs must begin as soon as possible, and can’t wait for a planned restoration of the entire Palace of Westminster which isn’t scheduled until the end of the decade.
