How Hospitals Can Make Patients Sick

Every year an estimated 648,000 people in the U.S. develop infections during a hospital stay and about 75,000 die, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

That’s more than twice the number of people who die each year in car crashes. Consumer Reports has come out with “How Your Hospital Can Make You Sick,” as part of a three-part investigative series focused on America’s antibiotic crisis.

The investigation has revealed some staggering facts and figures about the so-called “superbugs” found in US hospitals and the deadly effects on patients. Scott Goldberg has all of the information that your listeners need to know.
