Bowe Bergdahl Appears in Court

The Army sergeant who spent five years in Taliban captivity has begun his effort to avoid a court-martial that could land him in prison for life, if he’s convicted of desertion and Misbehavior before the Enemy.

Yesterday was the first day of Bowe Bergdahl’s Article 32 hearing at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, where the 29-year-old has been working since he was released in a controversial exchange of five Taliban fighters form Guantanamo Bay. Details of how Bergdahl fell into Taliban hands remain a point of dispute.

ABC’s Jim Ryan is in Texas with the latest.
