Airlines Sneaking In Small, Targeted Fare Increases

An Alexander Hamilton here, an Andrew Jackson there. Small little bumps to domestic fares that the consumer won’t necessarily notice, but the other airlines running similar routes certainly do. So how do they react? In this day of mergers and limited choices, more and more are joining in. Rick discusses the dynamic and process when one airline decides to jack up the price on a particular route, and the others either hold out, or follow suit.

He’ll also discuss which routes seem to be getting the attention, and what factors are at work when an airline is determining whether to take a shot at boosting the fare. Is it rocket science calculation, spit balling, or something in between. Rick will also discuss any nice deals he sees flying out of your airport this week.
