Zimmerman Trial Enters Second Week

They still have a lot of testimony to go, including some critical evidence from the medical examiner.

Legal analysts said the first week of testimony ended strong for the defense as it appeared to successfully turn several state witnesses into its own.

In opening statements, prosecutor John Guy told jurors to expect to hear Zimmerman disprove his own claims of self-defense when he gave statements to officers about the shooting.

“George Zimmerman will tell you in his own words that he committed murder,” said Guy.

Zimmerman gave several written and audio taped statements after the shooting, including a videotaped reenactment at his townhouse complex.

Also expected to take the stand this week will be a number of forensic experts, including the medical examiner who took custody of Trayvon Martin’s body.
