We were warned that this might be the case. Now early numbers released by the CDC confirm that the flu shot isn’t doing all that good a job. Overall effectiveness 23%, but when you look at just those 18 years of age and older, you’re looking at under 15% effective. This combined with the prediction of a rather virulent flu season, does not add up to a very positive scenario.
The problem, is doesn’t include the bug that is making the most people sick. Now in all fairness, this study looked at the effectiveness in keeping patients from visiting a doctor with symptoms. Whether this year’s flu shot prevented hospitalizations, or even death, has yet to be determined.
