Woman Stabbed by Grandson

LAKE WALES, Fla. (AP) _ A Polk County man is charged with first degree murder in the stabbing death of his grandmother.

A sheriff’s office report says 23-year-old Christopher Chase Whaley was scheduled to have a first appearance Sunday.

It’s not immediately known if he has an attorney.

The arrest affidavit says Whaley told detectives he thought about killing his 69-year-old grandmother, Barbara Denmark, and his aunt after an argument.

Whaley had been living with Denmark in her mobile home in Lake Wales.

Whaley told authorities he grabbed two knives from the kitchen and stabbed his grandmother repeatedly while she was taking a bath.

He left the room and came back to find her unresponsive on her bedroom floor.

He told authorities he decided at that point not to kill his aunt and call police.
