Woman Held in Human Trafficking

Kathleen Roberson, 21, of Phenix City, Ala., is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail pending federal charges for human trafficking and is there without bond.

Roberson was pulled over Saturday night after a Hillsborough sheriff’s deputy spotted a 2003 Kia Sorrento without a tag near Falkenburg Road and Progress Boulevard.

When the deputy pulled the car over and arrested Roberson, he found her carrying $6,000 in cash. Another Alabama woman, Jessica Roland, 29, who had been sitting in the rear cargo area and had a small amount of cocaine in her possession.

Five Mexican citizens in the vehicle were determined to be in the United States illegally, the arrest report states.

The deputy said that during further investigation, he determined that Roberson was transporting the Mexicans from Alabama to Immokaee.

The five people determined to be illegal immigrants are being held at the jail pending deportation, authorities said.
