It’s commonly known as whooping cough, though health-care professionals often refer to it as pertussis.
No matter what you call this contagious respiratory disease — newborns and infants are particularly susceptible — the Leon County Health Department is urging parents to make sure their children are up to date with immunizations.
One child-care center in Leon County has had six confirmed cases of whooping cough since September, according to a media release from the health department.
Babies need all five doses of the whooping cough vaccine on time, health department spokeswoman Page Jolly said.
