West Palm Beach Gunfighter Suspect Expected to Survive

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ South Florida authorities say a suspect wounded in a gunfight with sheriff’s deputies is expected to survive.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect pointed a gun at a Lake Clarke Shores police officer Friday evening before stealing a car and fleeing the scene.

A sheriff’s deputy spotted the car Saturday afternoon in West Palm Beach.

The sheriff’s office says more deputies arrived and prepared to stop the car, but the suspect fled on foot.

Authorities say the suspect began firing at the deputies as he ran, and the deputies returned fire.

The suspect was wounded and airlifted to a hospital.

The sheriff’s office says he was wanted on a warrant for aggravated battery and attempted robbery.

The deputies will be placed on paid administrative leave.
