Progress Energy is going to implode the old Bartow Steam Power Plant smokestacks on Weedon Island at 10 a.m. this morning.
The power plant has been a bay area landmark for more than 50 years.
The plan is to implode the three 300 foot stacks and the remaining two power plants.
The old power plant is on the property next to the new plant that went online in June of 2009.Demolition was suppose to happen last year but was put on hold after a welder was killed when one of the power plants colapsed on him.
