Hobby Lobby Case Has a Lot of Misconceptions
There appear to be some misconceptions about the Hobby Lobby case. Chris and I start the program off discussing these misconceptions, including what it does and doesn’t cover. We talk specifically about emergency contraceptives and the company’s belief that it Plan B, Ella and IUDs cause abortions, a belief that differs from what the FDA says.
ISIS Leader Calls on Muslims to Help Build Islamic State
The leader of the extremist group ISIS, that’s swept over much of northern Syria and Iraq, has called on Muslims to come to the territory his group has seized to help build an Islamic state. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi says in an audiotape, ‘Muslims, rush to your state.’ He makes a special call to scholars, judges, doctors, engineers and people with military and administrative expertise to join. ABC News correspondent Tom Rivers joins us at 6:25 to discuss it.
President Obama Calls on Republicans to Have Some “Economic Patriotism”
President Obama is calling for “economic patriotism” from Congress but feels he won’t get the support he needs from Republicans. The President told his Cabinet to proceed with executive actions and said to Congress “So, sue me.” All indications are that Congress will oblige. ABC News White House correspondent Ann Compton joins us at 7:10 to talk about it.
Celebrating 50 Years of the Civil Rights Act
Fifty years ago today, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was enacted by President Lyndon B. Johnson, banning discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin. John L. Ford, historian at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Pittsburgh, joins us at 7:35 to talk about its significance. For the last 45 years, John has devoted himself to studying African American history. He also served as the director in the education division and curator for Pennsylvania’s first Underground Railroad exhibit at the Heinz History Center. He’s won numerous awards and conducted numerous lectures at a number of academic institutions for his work in African American studies.
World Cup Recap USA vs. Belgium
USA vs. Belgium at the World Cup is in the books. The U.S. lost in overtime 2-1. ABC News correspondent Scott Goldberg joins us at 7:55 to give some game insight.
Texas Officials in the Market for a Ship to Sink
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department plans to sink a ship in the Gulf of Mexico to create an artificial reef for sea life and an interesting point of exploration for divers. The project, worth $4 million, is funded partly by the money collected from the BP oil spill. At 8:10, Jim Ryan of ABC News joins us to talk about it.
Gay Marriage in Florida Gets Its Day in Court Today
Today is a big day for gay couples in Florida. This afternoon, six same-sex couples will go before a South Florida judge challenging Florida’s same-sex marriage ban, saying that is unconstitutional. Nadine Smith, CEO of Equality Florida, joins us at 8:40 to talk about it.
VA Intake Day in Hillsborough and Polk County
Don’t forget…today is Veteran’s Intake Day in Hillsborough and Polk County. It’s an opportunity for veterans across Florida’s 15th Congressional District to share their VA experiences with members of his staff. U.S. Rep.
