University of Virginia Student Bloodied During Arrest

A University of Virginia student was arrested by Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) agents after midnight this morning. Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe is now calling for the Virginia State Police to investigate the arrest.

There is a gruesome photo and video circulating and posted by the school newspaper, the Cavalier Daily. On Twitter, the hashtag “#JusticeForMartese” is going around.

According to the ABC statement, “the individual was charged with Public Intoxication and Obstruction of Justice in an incident that occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. on March 18 in the 1500 block of University Avenue.

The uniformed ABC Agents observed and approached the individual after he was refused entry to a licensed establishment. A determination was made by the agents to further detain the individual based on their observations and further questioning.” This is not the first time an ABC agent has cause a controversy at the school.

In 2013 they mistakenly thought the bottled water a girl was a carrying to her car from the grocery story was beer, and the plain clothed officers surrounded her car, one even drawing a gun.
