UF Student Jumps to his Death

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ Police say a 26-year-old journalism student apparently jumped to his death from a stairwell in the west stands of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at the University of Florida.

University police spokesman Brad Barber told the Gainesville Sun (http://bit.ly/IPp98s ) Michael Richard Edmonds Jr. was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m. Sunday.

Barber says there is no indication of foul play and investigators were still trying to determine what happened.

Court records indicate Edmonds was arrested Saturday on a DUI charge.

A student told the newspaper she was outside the stadium when she heard a loud noise.

She saw a body on the sidewalk and called 911 while others tried to revive the man.

Barber says the stadium is open in the offseason, but the stairwell appeared to be locked.
