FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Officials in southwest Florida say two firefighters were injured when their fire truck crashed into a tree after the driver passed out due to a medical emergency.
Deputy Chief Ben Bengston says three South Trail Fire District firefighters were on a routine call early Friday morning when the driver got sick. He says no other vehicles were involved.
The Fort Myers News-Press reports the third firefighter was not injured in the crash. The passenger was treated and released from the hospital while the driver was being held for observation.
Bengston says there was about $100,000 in damage to the vehicle.
