Debby Is Now A Tropical Depression

ST. GEORGE ISLAND, Fla. (AP) _ Debby is expected to head out into the Atlantic later today, but forecasters warn that the weakened storm still poses a flooding and tornado threat even if it doesn’t pack the same punch.

The National Hurricane Center downgraded Debby from a tropical storm to a tropical depression last night as it slogged across northern Florida toward the Atlantic coast.

LAKE CITY, Fla. (AP) _ Portions of Interstate 10 in Lake City remain closed due to flooding caused by Debby, which has been downgraded to a tropical depression.

The Florida Highway Patrol says two sections of the state’s main east-west highway were still under water early Wednesday.

Both sections are in Lake City, near the area where the highway intersections with Interstate 75.

Rising water began causing trouble along I-10 on Tuesday, as troopers closed several sections of the highway east of the intersection with Interstate 75.

Motorists have been redirected onto local roads.

Debby began pounding Florida with rain on Sunday.

Flooding has been reported in many areas of the state as the system slowly moved across north Florida.
