DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Officials say Florida’s Turnpike is closed in both directions near Interstate 595 in Davie because a man has threatened to harm himself.
Miami TV stations reported Monday morning that law enforcement negotiators are in contact with the man.
But the incident has created a rush-hour backup along the main arteries near Davie. All lanes of the turnpike were closed. Most lanes of I-595 were shut down for a time, but reopened around 10 a.m. State Road 84 is also affected by the police activity.
Many motorists were being rerouted onto nearby roads.
No further details were immediately available.
