SARASOTA, Florida (AP) – Trial is set to begin for a Florida teenager accused of killing two British touristslast year.
Shawn Tyson is scheduled to stand trial Monday, his 17th birthday. He was charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the April 16, 2011, shootings of James Cooper and James Kouzaris.
Authorities say the British men were fatally shot during a robbery in a Sarasota housing project. Police say the tourists had been drinking in bars in the nearby downtown area.
Tyson was arrested the day after the shootings.
