NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (AP) _ A Tampa Bay area woman who authorities say placed her 2-month-old son under scalding water for several minutes has been charged with murder.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office filed second-degree murder charges Wednesday against 18-year-old Chekayla Dampier.
Authorities say she confessed to holding Emilio Jesus Bautista under the scalding water on April 17 because he wouldn’t stop crying.
She had previously been charged with child abuse, but the infant died Saturday morning at Tampa General Hospital.
The Tampa Bay Times (http://bit.ly/Jq4y6O) reports that Dampier was being held without bail.
