Tarpon Springs student brings gun to school

Tarpon Springs, Florida — An 11th grader at Tarpon Springs High School was arrested for having a loaded gun on campus Monday morning.

Tarpon Springs Police say the school resource officer had received an anonymous tip a student may have a firearm on campus. The officer found the student, identified as 16-year-old Dre’Tonio Greer, in his classroom and brought him to his office.

Greer admitted to having a gun on him and a black .32-caliber Beretta was found in the right pocket of shorts he was wearing under his jeans with three bullets in the magazine inside the gun.

Greer told police he had it for protection due to ongoing problems he was having outside of school with a few other students from school.
