Tampa/St. Pete Ferry Sails Closer To Reality

You may one day have another way to get between downtown St. Petersburg and downtown Tampa.

St. Pete city council has voted to spend $350 thousand toward a new ferry boat system.

The money will come from the city’s BP oil spill settlement money.

Hopes are that today’s financial commitment will get Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties plus the City of Tampa to kick in $350 thousand each as well.

St. Pete officials want to have one ferry taking part in a 5 month pilot program by next October.

More boats would be added as needed.
