Wrong-Way I-275 Driver Charged With DUI

Cornelia Johnson

We continue to see wrong-way drivers in the Tampa Bay area.

According to Tampa police, a wrong-way driver was spotted on I-275 at about 2:00 a.m. Monday and stopped between Howard Avenue and the downtown exits. A passerby spotted a small light colored vehicle driving north in the southbound lanes of the interstate near Himes Avenue.

Police say road work crews and Road Rangers were able to stop the driver before any accidents occurred. The driver was identified as 64-year-old Cornelia Johnson. She was arrested for being uncooperative with the officers and for suspicion of driving while impaired.

According to police, Ms. Johnson refused to submit a breath or urine sample and was charged accordingly. She continued to be uncooperative and would not say where she got onto the interstate.

Her passenger, another female, would not provide any information.
