Two Men Lost In Hillsborough River Located

Update: A HCSO Aviation Unit has spotted the two men walking in a mixture of swamp and densely wooded area along the river. They have made contact with the two lost men and discovered there was a third man with them. The men will be brought back to their canoe and assisted back to the canoe launch site at John B. Sargeant Park, which should take about an hour. Deputies reported that all three men appear to be in good health.

At 8 pm last night, HCSO was contacted via cell phone by a man who said he and his friend were lost in their canoe along the Hillsborough River and unable to find their way back to their launch site at at John B Sargeant Park located at U/S. 301 and Stacey Road. There has since been no further communication with the man.

HCSO Aviation and Marine Units immediately began a search and rescue mission in attempt to locate both men and been working throughout the night to locate the men.

Deputies believe the the two men are somewhere in one of the many swampy inlets along the river between John B Sargeant Park and the Hillsborough River State Park.

Lt Donald Morris will be at the John B Sargeant Park located at US301 and Stacy Road at 6 am to provide media update.
