Clearwater Toddler Hit And Killed By SUV

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — Police say a 20-month-old boy has died after being hit by a sports utility vehicle in Clearwater.

Clearwater police spokesman Rob Shaw says Maddux Silva was taken to Morton Plant Hospital where he died early Thursday.

Shaw says the family had just returned to their North Betty Lane home and the boy’s father went to unlock the front door and let the dog out.

The mother got the child out of his car seat and reached back to get his drink.

That’s when the boy ran into the street and was struck by the SUV.

Authorities didn’t release names of the parents.

SUV driver Latonya Bailey stopped and told police she didn’t see the child until it was too late.

She submitted to a blood draw to check her blood-alcohol level.
