Teen Killed Over Name Calling

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Police say one teenager is dead following a “verbal” confrontation with another teen in St. Petersburg.

Assistant police Chief Jim Previtera called the Tuesday afternoon shooting a “name-calling” that ended in the shooting death of 17-year-old Gabriel Wallace.

The Tampa Bay Times reports the argument started in an apartment before spilling outside. Officers responding to the scene found the teen on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition.

Police say Wallace was declared dead about 5:40 p.m.

Investigators say they’re searching fo 18-year-old Abrion M. Witcher who fled the scene. Previtera says there is probable cause to arrest the teen. Authorities were working with a third party late Tuesday to convince him to turn himself in to police.
